I look up to find you watching me
As I catch your gaze you look away
Quickly pretending to be interested
In the ground in front of you
And I smile at your apparent shyness
For it is very refreshing to me today

You look so cute trying to be occupied
Elsewhere hoping that I didn’t notice you
Watching me intently as I sat on the beach
With my notebook and pen in hand
Praying to my muse to set them in motion
Leading me to perfection in poetry

I could feel the heat of your gaze
Upon every part of my body
As you watched to see what I’d do
Keep watching, baby, because there’s more
Plenty more where this came from
My clear blue eyes now feast upon you

I drink you up wholly while you walk by
From your soft light brown hair
To those piercing green eyes that try
Without much success to avoid mine
You pass me and my eyes follow you
Oh, you look so good in those shorts

The t-shirt you’re wearing
Fits your muscular frame perfectly
And I sigh softly to myself in awe
As you stop not far from me
Turning around to backtrack your steps
I feel my heart stop beating for a moment

As you offer your hand and introduce yourself
I am taken aback by the current that flows
Between us like hot electricity
Waiting impatiently to be unleashed
When my hand is in yours lingering for a moment
I introduce myself and ask you to join me

You ask what brings me here today
To bask in the sun near the cool lake
I tell you I come here often to seek inspiration
From my muse of poetry who thrives here
You ask to see what I’ve written so far
So I hand you my notebook smiling shyly

You read the beginning of my saga
Then look at me with a huge smile
Asking if you are my subject today
I look down and blush saying yes
Thinking I may die of embarrassment
Right here in this very spot

You gently take my hand
Asking me to walk with you
Along the sandy shore
I reply that I’d love to
And as we set off on our journey
You say you have a confession

You have been watching me
From afar for a couple weeks
Trying to work up the courage
To talk to me but you knew I was writing
And you feared you would be disturbing me
I look back at you in amazement

I have seen you here before also
The lake wasn’t the only thing
That kept me coming back
Each time I came here
I hoped that I would see you
Walking along the shoreline

Seems we both had eyes for each other
Yet neither of us knew until today
I think this was the first time
I met your gaze with mine
Finally gathering the courage
To look up at you when I felt you there

We walk down the beach together
Hand in hand, side by side
Both lost in the conversation
We have longed for weeks to have
Talking of our hopes, dreams
And desires of the heart

We leave behind a long trail
Of footprints in the sand
I bet that if you look closely
You can still see them there
Their image has been etched
Deep inside my heart for eternity

All writing comes
by the grace of God.

A deep, satisfying sigh of "that's really nice".  If only fear weren't so powerful a force in life, we could all stroll on our own beaches, together...

Took some courage on your part. Reminds me of a three hour shadow dance I had at the art museum two weeks ago which had no happy conclusion.

Interloper:  Thank you!

Mark:  Fear can be a tremendous roadblock at times, but we all need to learn to overcome it.  Thanks.

Kathleen:  I am always inspired by something, sweetheart.  Thank you much!

RSWells:  I hope the next dance has a hapy conclusion for you.  Just don't give up!

Marge:  Chances not taken are opportunities that have been wasted.  I believe we need to risk in order to love.  After all, there are no guarantees in life.  Thanks.

walker:  Perhaps someday it will.

I love this!  A woman sitting on the beach watching the man walk by.  I believe it was Virginia Slim who said, 'We've come a long way, baby'.  Well done!

I had to laugh as that would be me alright, as I am never shy about asking for what I want, and as a matter of fact I think this happened when I was younger.  This was very cute, romantic, hopeful, loving, and your story was interesting, well done indeed!

Nice, yet another reason to sit on the beach and write
Truly fun story to read, you put the reader right there with you. I agree, and I always jump out and take a chance. Of course it usually is all for naught. But someday...
