I walk through the warm summer rain With my hands in my pockets As I watch the ground pass before me Eyes downcast to the rest of the world Oblivious to my surroundings For I have lost myself in this brief moment Where time seems to have stood still Nothing exists beyond me except This path that I have chosen to traverse The pavement slopes and curves Disappearing out of sight a few yards ahead I care not where it leads this afternoon As I walk slowly engrossed in deep thought Pondering what life has in store for me I come to a bench facing the river So I stop to sit and reflect a while The cool dark water cascades before me Pouring itself onto the rocks below Like a purging of the bad within To make way for all that is good Cleansing the very essence of the soul I take the time to pause for a moment Thanking the Lord for the beauty And wonders that surround me here It comforts me in a way I cannot explain Nature in all her glory shining brightly Through whatever comes her way For she is adaptable like a chameleon You know she is always there Yet there are times you cannot see The exact space she occupies For her camouflage is superb Shielding her from harm’s way In a way which allows for survival Regardless of the situation In many ways I think to myself I too have been like the chameleon Throughout different times in my life Changing the appearance of the real me To suit the situation I was in Always keeping in mind That survival was the key After my mind has wandered I stand up giving the river One last glance before heading back To continue my solitary journey Along the trail where life flows Abundantly in brilliant colors Here beside the river of my dreams All writing comes |

I've always found that when you change who you are to suit your surroundings, then people miss the real you. A well-written, thought-provoking poem. passion is life. . . ~Diana |

Lone Wolf, this is a peaceful reflection that all of us can relate to at one time or another. You have said it beautifully. I wish we did not have to change to impress others, but just be ourselves. Wonderful words, ME |

How beautiful. When we walk with our eye cast downward our steps will be more sure but we cannot see opportunity. Your river of dreams was a God send because it made you lift up your eyes Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write. Philip Sidney (1554-1586) Loving in Truth |

Logan: I think we have been downt he same path a few times, my friend. Always have to be true to yourself. It isn't easy, but essential for happiness I believe. Kathleen: Thank you much, sweetheart. Zinsser: We all do indeed share the same space I think. Thank you! VAS: We have all been chameleons at different times, oh yes. It was a great walk. JLR: A thank you is more than enough. I'm happy you gained something from this. ThUnDeRkYsS: HEY!! Where ya been bud? Missed you sweetie and I didn't for get you either. We'll talk soon, ok? Thank you for stopping in to read. Wonderful hearing from you. Hope you stick around a while. {{{{{{{{HUGZ }}}}}}}} back at ya! Passions Voice: I just decided I have to be me. If I'm not, I'm just not going to be happy. Thanks. M_E: I believe you are right. I wish we didn't have to change either. You know, those who are our true friends and genuinely like us, will except us as we are. I'm through trying to impress people. Thank you! Interloper: Thank you, and yes, you have to look up to see what is before you always. All writing comes |

Nature in all her glory shining brightly Through whatever comes her way For she is adaptable like a chameleon You know she is always there Yet there are times you cannot see The exact space she occupies For her camouflage is superb Shielding her from harm’s way In a way which allows for survival Regardless of the situation You've described nature so well... I think many of us are drawn to nature... not so that we can emulate, but just for the respite from our worries and chance to appreciate her adaptability. *S* Thank you for sharing your journey with us... this is beautiful. |

I love those cleansing walks. You painted this with gentle colours and sparkle. "Build a man a fire, he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life". Terry Pratchett |

Hey Lone Wolf..... I love the honesty of this verse........ "In many ways I think to myself I too have been like the chameleon Throughout different times in my life Changing the appearance of the real me To suit the situation I was in Always keeping in mind That survival was the key" That's great honest writing....Bravo! |
