Only In My Heart

Late at night when the world is silent,
the rain dances against the glass
in droplets glistening like ebony.
I can hear my heart pounding,
awakening me softly.

My eyes can still see you
shadowed in fragments from a hazy dream.
Your face eveloped in a veil of beauty.
Your voice still echoing faintly in my ear.
I see my reflection in blue,
as the mirrors of your eyes
make the deepest reaches of my soul come alive
with your warmth of a thousand summers
...I have never known.

A portrait so beautiful,
so exquisite.
An artist's rendering
in my private imagination.
So still. So unreal. So sad.
For only in my heart can I love you.
Only in my secret longings,
and personal imagery can I touch you.

I often wonder,
perplexing in my thoughts
how it would be
if your brush could complete my painting
across the miles of time, of life, of destiny.
But you will never know me.
This hopeless dreamer that I am.
This romantic creator of seasons,
that you will never bring to me.

Only in my heart can I love you.
For my arms remain empty,
aching to be cradled in yours.
To feel my body against your passion,
surrounded by your love
...I could call home.

If you knew of my desires
would you be ambivalent or welcoming?
Could you believe that somewhere awaits
a true life Cinderella,
inspired by Disney, and impassioned by you.
Could you feel my fire that burns endlessly
and eternal?

I will never know
what it's like to live inside your life,
to dwell inside your heart.

For only in my heart can I love you.
For only in my heart...
...am I in yours.

Very beautiful. Nice to see you back. You do write the most romantic poetry. And maybe what is in your heart is in his, too.
