Over Africa

On terra firma,
the solar chasers come
from as far away as Japan;
for fun, or knowledge,
sentries over Mozambique
as darkness overtakes the sun.

Moon’s shadow in a tidal race,
watchers gaze, with eyes eclipsed
while, over Madagascar -
as though lovers,
one sphere covers the other, the two
resembling a serpent star.

The healers hear a different view,
of ancestral songs that speak,
this veil a sign of loss of peace,
turmoil between her peoples,
disease laying lives to waste,
Africa’s low at a peak.

Over the Indian Ocean,
at sunset, it comes to an end,
masks are quickly discarded,
as realities around rebound,
the travelers hastily leave,
before real darkness descends.

beautifully written, we must realise that we are but visitors in some places.
