I don’t want to study Hawthorne…I want to pen all day and night
I'm avowed to hide my deep scorn…that my writings are rather light
I don’t desire myself afloat…wherein no shadow cast its pale
And if I were just a footnote…it would decry my life has failed
I don’t want to study Hawthorne…though a brilliance of which he was
My message of which I'm outworn…like Hester Prynne so often does
I’m neither Anne nor a martyr… nay not of Spenser's Faerie Queene
I've no morals here to barter…I’m not spectral and not obscene
I’m only penning from the heart…of which I’ve made no lasting deals
My new mentor would thus impart…I am but a Doane’s (sex) appeal
Ribbons in my lacklusting hair…permit you to be the jury
Am I but one of poet fair…or maybe just full of fury

WAY COOL RHYME...WAY OUT WALT

very well done...and NOT easy to do either!!

I'm going crazy, I'm losing sleep.
I'm in too far, I'm in way too deep over you.
You'll always be the one.
You were the first, you'll be the last.

Amen, Walt.

I've always believed the only true measure of poetry is how it conveys the authors feelings - his heart if you will.  This is excellent, in that regard.

Walt~
Enjoy the way your mind engages us in ponder.

VERY well done, poet ... indeed.

I really enjoyed this, Walt!!!  The whole time I was reading, I kept thinking of my own 'argument' that I have internally with the advisors that say, to find 'MY voice' I need to read many others.  I'm thinking, if I read many others, won't I find THEIR voices, won't I be prone to use their words, erroneously thinking they're my own.  How can I be guilty of pleagirism, if I don't read others?  Then the words I use will come from within my own my, NOT from my memory.

But now, I'm reading many others and I'm reading different authors and enjoying it so much, so I guess I'm risking all those things of which I fear.  One thing I really like to find, is authors that see things the same way I do, or express them in the same manner...it gives me more confidence.  Gracious, look what your poem did!  I'm not really saying much ABOUT your poem, but about what your poem has done to my thoughts.  That's a good thing for a poem to do, isn't it...stir up thoughts?
