Time top Face the Fears I lay alone in silent pose In fragrance of a summer rose Where moon and starlight softly blend And silence was my only friend With wounded heart and love unfound I huddled on the cold wet ground Then opening my weary eyes And gazing upward to the skies I saw a stranger gazing down And weeping at the sight she found She lifted me and gently led Me to the comfort of her bed She held me close and soothed my fears In places far across the years This stranger then I recognize Was my own self with aging eyes The sorrow of her darkest days Reflecting in a mirrors glaze And all the unknown hidden lies Are streaming now from older eyes The truth can be such wicked strife To hold inside for half a life One day the anguish of the past Comes bursting through a mirror’s glass I see the old but touch the young Recalling now the songs unsung And sorrow much too great to bear Was saved for future heart’s despair I look into the mirror’s haze And see myself in youthful days So innocent a fragile heart To bear the weight that life imparts I found her lying there in pain A youthful image in the rain And wept at what I would behold The fragile hunger of the soul I picked her up and held her near For it was time to face the fear And then I recognized the truth This girl was me in days of youth The sorrow felt in time that passed Was now exposed to me at last Though tears were all I had to give She gave me back the joy to live Elizabeth Santos |

Lady Santos, this is indeed one of the loveliest you have ever penned... so indeed then, it becomes a keep of the keeper... |

Elizabeth, my friend~ 'I picked her up and held her near For it was time to face the fear And then I recognized the truth This girl was me in days of youth The sorrow felt in time that passed Was now exposed to me at last Though tears were all I had to give She gave me back the joy to live' I can only say .... thank you. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Oh Elizabeth ... I started to copy my favorite verses ... but they are all so exceptional. How many times have I said "this" is my favorite Liz? Oh my ... you really got me with this one ... I've got goosebumps, as if you've read a chapter from my life as well. Excellent writing my friend, truly wonderful emotions you've captured. Thank you for this exquisite read. Best wishes, /Kit |

Thank you so much for reading and commenting on this poem, which I wasn't sure anyone would relate to. Actually this is a true story. About a year ago I had to come to terms with things that happened long ago, and relive the experiences in order to deal with them. Kit and JM you both brought tears to my eyes Thank you Liz |
