Watching the faces
Of strangers,
I search with care,
Looking for something
That I recognize,
But can’t define.

Hopeful that
What I find will
Fill in me the empty
Place, I can’t quite
Understand.

In tender moments
I think it is
A reflection of you,
But in harder times
I know it is an
Image of what
I wish for me
That is lacking
In both of us.

Each face parades
Across my sight
As I fumble with
Clumsy thoughts
And awkward feelings
Knowing that I am
Wrong to search
Outside of me
For these things

Still…
I watch the passing faces
Of strangers as they
Go their way…
And I
Search for mine

I love people watching ... one of my hobbies.
Reading your work has become another, my friend.

I really enjoyed this one.  Its amazing what you never really see until you give something a second glance.  Great job!

Aren't we all just strangers to each other, and strangers to ourself when looking into the future.

Through observing others we better understand ourselves. Besides you may look into the eyes of which you've dreamed.

To fill lonliness from outside sources is but a temporary bandaid, but "people watching" is fun alright, and who knows the inside might get filled by seeing and talking to that right someone!  Great poem, lots of thinking to do on this. hmmmm

Wonderful work,Cpat...

It is hardly unsurprising that you, like many of us here are one of the people watchers... a nice hobby to have, I think...

This is what I had written, some time back... hope you like this...

Regards,
Sudhir

The Show Will Carry On

Centre stage had at once been dimmed,
Hallway lights were soon switched on.
The ticketed show deemed to be over,
but life's free freak show must carry on.

Lights at the end of the dimmed corridor
Blinked in steady green, 'This Way Out'.
Red streetlights caused a tricky traffic jam -
The real show had just begun, no way out!

The sign in green exhorted me to WALK
Across the zebra striped in white and black;
An enthusiastic biker screeched to a halt
As if almost ready to pounce upon my back.

I found my way back to the tram stop,
Checked the time - ten minutes to go
Noticed a couple engaged in a brawl -
Arguing over events of a long time ago!

"You are a fool!" said she, quitting the scene,
"Yes! Fooled by your lies!" he shouted back.
This show had also folded. I stood amused
as the tram ambled near, time to hit the sack.

Tomorrow is another day - it always is,
Assured myself that 'The show will carry on'
Whether bright and sunny or gloomily rainy,
Better check out that one tomorrow dawn.

The Main Street lights were now dimmed,
And sleepy night-lamps were switched on
Another day ended, closing another act
But life's free freak show will carry on.

"I was born intelligent - education ruined me"
