To Wilfred Yeats

Years of living set the stage
For words that lift from off the page
And wrap me in a soft embrace
With class and style, warmth and grace

I feel as though I’ve sat with him
Beside his hearth as light grew dim
A sip of wine, a little taste
And hands would wrap around my waist

I’ve lain upon his lover’s bed
Where heartbeat’s pulse brought flush of red
Where whisperings entranced my heart
Of lovely poems that they impart

I’ve walked along his friendship path
In sorrow’s silent aftermath
He held my hand and let me view
The nature walk of life anew

He cherishes the sights and sounds
Where splendors of the fields abound
He takes you there in golden phrase
That you’ll remember all your days

Whatever loss, whatever pain
He washes with the softest rain
His poetry is like a wine
I take a sip and it is mine

I savor every word he pens
This gentle loving poet freind
And there I am, my thoughts unsaid
Wrapped in the warmth of lover’s bed

He lives the most of every day
And writes it in a special way
He measures not by sands he’s seived
But only by how well he’s lived

Elizabeth Santos

Now if everyone would live as these lines, what a happy world this would be.  I absolutely loved this poem I have read his poetry in the archives, and this is a wonderful tribute to your friend.  I loved these two lines:

"He measures not by sands he’s seived
But only by how well he’s lived"

Thank you all for your comments to this poem. It is obvious to me that many here feel a part of Bill's poetery as they read it
My wish is that he returns soon with a romantic poem just for me. (Of course, you may all read it , too)

This is wonderful, Liz.  I pray that Bill recovers soon and is back with us where he belongs.
