BY THE DAWN

I reach again for human goals to find my dreams denied,
I walk this line of leery souls to see mine's left behind.
I'm told Song is the saving grace, and Time the travesty,
But what sweet verse could e'er replace this dying part of me?

I linger by the testament of images long dead,
But question not emotion spent on words I thought once said.
Nor, holding true the man I am, let I this vision slide;
For in the end who gives a damn when all that's left is Pride?

Oh, Reaper, stand and heed this call, if cryptic in its tune;
I shall not wince, no not at all, should my walkway be strewn
With flowers laced in soft white death - but in knowing the source,
Within the misting baby's breath, would smile in due recourse.

In breathless shivers by the dawn, as Hope reaches the height
Of feral admiration drawn, I only wait for Night.
The symbiotic aftertone, the Bethany of Chance;
I cry to wind and sky, alone, for my deliverance...

But often wonder, times like these, what's going through my head?
...To think that Time could ‘er appease these feelings so well fed.
...To think that I could ever seize the moment in it's wake;
Or Love might find it feasible to end this lifelong ache.

Michael R. Anderson

But dreams of those who dream as I,
Aspiringly, are damned and die.

So few poets words...the emote of the words, effect me to the depth yours do...
you have such a gift for writing the emotions, the ache, with such intensity and  stark vivid honesty that the reader feels every word...
(tho I know that gift comes with the writer feeling every word too for having lived it)
your work never fails to move me, and impress me...
This piece of excellence is another jewel in your crown--our endeared prince of darkness.
I swear I could read you till I go blind

she said I dont know why you ever would lie to me
like I'm a little untrusting when I think that the truth is gonna hurt ya

My words could never do your work justice, but this is absolutely incredible...such fantastic expression of these feelings, Michael!  I am in awe of such excellently chosen words...I love this...

Everything gotta change around me
I’d tell it to your face,
But you lost your face along the way...

Michael, oh dear sweet Michael, if I lost all ability to read somehow overnight I would count myself blessed just for having the chance to read your words. You should definitely consider publishing a book of your works. No modern poet today (in my opinion) has the gift of weave and rhyme so much as you. I am, as always, left in awe at how easily your words flow and congregate together. I hope this posting finds you well my dear friend. May God bless you and yours.

Michael, I can't come up with another creative response, because they have all been said. This is just incredible.

"soft white death" is stunning, the entire piece well done!

Your phrasing and flow are exceptional Michael. I so enjoy your work, not only for the beauty in it's form, but for the somehow odd relation I feel through your words. You place this ache to words so incredibly well ... powerful and raw emotions, and so beautifully written. Take care ....

Best wishes,
/Kit

As verbose as I am ordinarily accused of being, this talented piece leaves me slack jawed and speechless. Am I allowed to be jealous?

I'd like to say thank you all for the kind and somewhat overwhelming replies here.  I wish I had time to thank you each individually but I'm running late today.

If you'd written only the last line, you'd have my rapt attention... As it is, it's punctuation for perfection. *S* I think this is one of my favorites, Michael... and that's saying a lot! *S*

Brillance undertoned in beauty ... lovely combination.

suthern, I have to say that is the first compliment I have ever received on punctuation and I can't tell you how good that makes me feel... That is something I always worry over.  TY

Janet, I'll forgive you this time

Connie, TY - I'm glad you enjoyed.

Marge, A high compliment - thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I can't believe I missed this, but I only found it while searching on someone else's name and they replied to your poem.

I didn't know their were people who still wrote with such elegance.

Wonderfully done! My compliments.

Wow.  I will let the meaning sink in later, but let me commend you on the exquisite form of this work!  It is very rare today to find a poem that feels like a classic.  I look forward to reading more of your works.

It is the emotions one feels, and you can stir them like no other.  I missed some I see, so JM is kinding feeding them through thanks, JM.
