A Pseudo Father’s Day Poem I do remember one picture when you looked like someone’s father not mine but still I liked the image hand in hand with my little sister on a sidewalk many steps ahead of me you didn’t even know I had my camera it’s a picture you’ve never seen only fair since it portraits a father you never were to me honestly, I’m not aching or wishing that you were more I’m remembering other men and women who fathered me Mr. O’Donell gave me a St. Bernard puppy together we trained her and won ribbons Mr. Price reminded the boys to my embarrassment, yet pleasure that while it was football we were playing I was a girl…so go easy on the tackling Eljee took me with her own to summer bible school let me draw posters of peace and love and help teach the younger kids Arthur, I simply smile at the memory he sat around in pajamas all day helping us put together puzzles Joni listened for hours as I talked through teenage angst Lorraine’s parents, I don’t remember their names loved to hear me play piano Jimmy Jackson held me in his arms even as I cried his daughter had broken my heart for the first of many times So Dad, Father, bearer of seed forgive my apathy paternity’s not the holiday here no matter what Hallmark thinks I got what I needed and I remember them all for being a father to me |

JLR~ There are many out here who share your experience ... It often isn't about 'paternity' ... but the hearts that shared the memories we hold for 'eternity'. *Hugs* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

OH MY LORD can I relate to this. FINALLY, someone who understands lol... You know, I woke up on Sunday and my first thought was 'bah humbug it's Father's Day' coupled with a little sneer. When I was 10 I had a teacher who was a true father figure - I'm still in touch with him today...I have a very close internet friend who provides a fatherly role in some ways, even though I'm 26...I think sometimes there is a still a little child in me somewhere... perhaps there is in all of us?
