Twist of fate
that brought me here
one precious moment too late
Parting farewell from this heart
explosive remnant of swift depart
Salvaged watch from rubbled heap
rusts forever in hour of your sleep
the hands of time no more do turn
across the life of this daughter
Daddy I hold each tick of you
as if there should be more

Kit~
Thank you, sweet lady.
My father was killed in a dynamite explosion while welding a rig with dynamite left in the cab of the truck.
After his funeral, the firemen found his pocket watch that had stopped at the precise moment of the accident.
They presented it to this, then teenaged, daughter with tears that it was all they could offer.
I've always held it in precious recall of him.

Marge~ An awesome poem to remember your dad. A terrible tragedy for a young girl to endure in teenage years. It must have been hard.
I lost my dad in 1983, he was murdered by two young guys that were trying to rob him. I may have already told you that.
I do understand the shock of unexpected loss.

Hugs,
Deb

Such a beautiful tribute. The veil is very thin. Listen and you will hear his voice in your memory.

BloomingRose~
Thank you sweet lady.
Hugs to you also for the sadness of your loss.

Karilea~
I'd like to think so.
Thank you.

Autumn~
Indeed I often listen ...
Saddened that I can only recall endearments to a young girl.
Sad that I had not reached adulthood, with him there, so that we could talk.

JanetMarie~
Thank you sweetest friend.
I am pleased to know that he could be felt in what I write.

SoaringEagle~
Too young to have the grown-up memories a daughter should have.
Thank you with all my heart, sweet one.
I love you.

I really don't know how to comfort you Marge, but I can say this...perhaps his watch was spared as a reminder to always have the "time" to think of him fondly with love. (I like to think things happen for reasons). He watches, but where he here, he would be wearing that watch and strutting pretty proud with the sweetest gal I know, with a heart bigger than all outdoors!  A lovely tribute to your Dad.

I won't say anything lest it comes across as hollow and callous

Kaile~
Callous ? Hollow ?
Never associated either of those thoughts with the kindness of you.
Thank you for the HUG !

Thank you, sweetie.
It wasn't an easy one to pen ... and yet it was~
The memories are as vivid as they were the day they happened.
Love you~
