The Blood Knot "How come you don't?" my sister says. Go there she means To place some violets on his grave, Or maybe roses and a flag; "They're free you know; Don't you miss Dad?" And then I watch her hurry off To pick up Mom Before the afternoon gets hot And the traffic starts to snarl As it backs up At the gate to the Veteran's cemetery. "You should go, it would not hurt!" Then slams the door to her Buick, While I look down to take a turn In a precious knot Taught me by an expert fly fisherman. RMW |

I really like this poem. It really makes me think of how my relationships are with my father and my son and what I would most remember if either of them were gone or what they would remember of me. |

This is fantastic. Totally touching. I could relate, as I too, have my own ways of memory and tribute. You're very talented! |

Short, simple strokes of story, wrapped neat and delivered in exemplary manner in the last two lines.... living on in their memory with emulations of their gifts is the best way.... |

that knot lies in all of us. . . great job with this one. . . ----------------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |

extremely powerful extremely poignant remembrance happens in so very many ways my father's grave is six hour drive away from me, plus all the rest a trip there would entail, not making excuses, but I just remember him in my heart and share a love of writing with him happy fishing, Bob, may the knot in your heart be a lovely binding |

Someone much more elegant wrote: " do not stand at my grave and weep for I am not there. Honoring memories makes more sense to me than grieving. "I am not now that which I have been." |

Oh, Bob. Are we kindred souls from another dimension? My memories of a Marine Corps Sgt. Major are infinitely stronger than visually inspecting his grave marker. A man is truly immortal when he lives in the mind of another. Well writ my friend. |
