Winter's Barbs Along the pasture run a new fence. In summer it's barbed points glittered Like a diamond necklace As morning sun caught the dew. The horses never seemed to notice. They nibbled at the green grass, Ran in hurried play with tails Fanned behind them, Until in the heat, they would seek The comfort of the shade Further from the house. As seasons changed and the sun Lost its burning desire to bake The rich earth like an over done brownie Northern clouds hung low over Once green fields, turning a world of color, grey. No longer a diamond necklace, Pointed barbs have become pearls As thick wet snow clings to them surrounding the neck of woods, Where in summer, sweet shade held refuge. Still sharp and cutting it now matches the wind and sings harmony to no one and to me... |

Oh but if I could only write just one poem like this I would be so happy, thank you for sharing your wonderful gift of images with me, I truly enjoyed this. There again, I know this scene well and you nailed it dead on. ~*~ Remember to tell someone today that you love them as tomorrow may never come ~*~ |
