I opened a forgotten tome to a page that showed Whittier, who once wrote long ago That of sad words from tongue or pen, The saddest are, ‘It might have been’ I pointed her to this thoughtful decree Spelled out so well and carefully And hesitated, afraid to make unclear The point of what I wanted her to hear She gazed first with those luminous eyes That traveled from first the page, to meet mine An instant became forever then As the words resounded, ‘It might have been’ In that brief hesitation bathed in her glow It was then and there that I came to know That of sad words that shall echo eternity The saddest are in truth, ‘It used to be’ (My first poem posting, be gentle) |

The saddest are, ‘It might have been’ Some days...words of one are felt by another...this is one of those days.. ~Wynter "The worst prison would be a closed heart". |
