~* Tears Of The Seventh Moon *~

She stood upon the ancient rock wailing at the moon,
She cried tears of anger to spirits in the sky,
She knew she would kiss her brave goodbye soon.
And again, she cried for her people asking “why?”

Her handsome brave so muscled and strong,
Would leave for the battle on the seventh moon.
This would be the third time he survived a battle,
She feared he would be killed in battle soon.

He was painted with the face of war,
A bearskin, hachet, and gun at his side,
He bowed his head to hide his tears,
From the maiden now standing at his side.

He has risen long before the coming dawn,
With the elders, he sat at the fire now dim.
The sky was ablaze with sad, red premonition,
Now, taking her hand, he held his maiden close to him.

Anger for the land his forefather’s planted overwhelmed him,
Why did they have to protect what was already theirs?
Blood stained, every blade of grass, stone mixed with bone,
They ravaged their wildlife and land without a care.

They had violated their trust and most of their women,
Brought them disease in blankets when they tried to trade,
His anger and hate left him no choice but to fight,
Visions of his forefathers would not seem to fade.

They had offered them their friendship, wisdom and food,
Showed how they connected to a spirit world of love,
Each native had a spirit watching over him or her,
In the world where ancestors rested above.

He rode swift and hard, with death painted on his face,
He thought he heard a battle cry, but then felt peace,
As he knew this battle was raged in another time,
Sometime back in history, only at a different place.

Many moons passed, winter winds felt like burning flames,
But flames not hot enough to melt her empty, ice-filled heart.
She hated them; she hated the color of her skin, her people,
She cried why did it all matter, what caused this all to start?

It was on the evening of the seventh moon,
She stood upon the ancient rock still waiting and saw,
In the far distance, shadows moving as slow as snails
But she was delighted, it left her in awe.

The braves, sick and wounded were approaching the village,
She ran in excitement for she could see her love.
He was alive, but wounded and trailing his horse.
She fell to the ground and prayed to the spirits above.

She looked down at the hide covered with blood and pride,
It showed more than the wounds that were his pain…
This time she knew something inside him was lost,
And nothing would bring her love’s spirit back again.

As she lay there on the ground that was theirs,
He rested his hand on her shoulder, to sooth her heart.
How many had to die before unity and peace were achieved,
For tomorrow, a new battle somewhere would start.

(tears fall down my cheeks) It is so very sad and heartbreaking indeed to see a world of imperialism and greed where war and hatred continues to go on! My heart cries out to all these poor natives who were forced to fight for their freedom. (sad sigh) Such a powerfully emotional poem, it's strength and cadence is remarkable! You have such a beautiful heart, dear friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

this touched me deeply and i love the way you weave words around a picture and tell the story with such truth and ease, the Native Americans are continuing their struggles and
thats what makes me sad,you would think by now we all would have learned to get along and be open to others ideas and beliefs, etc
but until everyone can open their minds and
hearts and try to help others and not just
benefit for themselves all the time then
many people will continue to struggle..
thanks for this piece of art you have given
us to enjoy..

Watersign ~ Yes it does still go on every single day, and we just have to keep making a noise about it.  Thanks for reading.

My Enchanted Melody: Everytime some is forced into living a suppressed sitation there are bound to be two sides fighting for different causes, by the sounds of your heart you are on the right side of that fence, and for that I thank you!

Interloper: Isn'that the truth?  Thanks for enduring this long poem.

The music was compelling as the words. Unity may not be achieved in this our life-time. Be at peace.

The music was as compelling as the words. I'm unsure that we as a people can achieve unity and peace. Planning for war negates our quest. Be at peace.

I'm not sure we can achieve unity or peace, as we continue to plan for war and defense. your words were as compelling as the music.

Mysteria~
You beat the drums of my heart, as I'm sure you knew you would.

'Anger for the land his forefather’s planted overwhelmed him,
Why did they have to protect what was already theirs?'

Indeed ... why ?

The spirits have said there will be an awakening
where we will all be as one ...
The resplendant land will be returned to those who cherish it ...
Hearts will be made ready to accept one another in peace~

Thank you for this lovely post, my friend.

Marge: Forefathers were right, the land is in fact already being reclaimed in B.C., as it should have been centuries ago.  The land reclamation trials continue daily here of late, and here at least, they are getting returned what is theirs in the first place.  This little thing stemmed from such a lawsuit going on right now and not only is my friend Squamish Indian, but also the lawyer for the opposition, too funny, see they don't know that! Well I laughed anyway, I thougth it was darn funny!

Autumn: Welcome aboard, and I shall also look for your lovely words.
