The Lighthouse White sails against the grayness of the night Adrift at sea without a charted course Where once they skimmed the waters of delight Now sailed in unknown circles of remorse The little craft afloat on rippled wave Was seeking safety from a coming gale Edging toward the sheltered harbor's bay Blinded by the blowing wind and hail A lantern beamed its glow through raging squall Through fog and waves and ocean’s frightening roar The light, instead of warning to withdraw Beckoned her to come upon the shore A boat in limbo drifting place to place Unknowing of what dangers were to be Looked toward the light that offered an embrace A safe and warming haven from the sea A lantern’s glow that ever mystifies You were a beacon in the midnight mist That lured me to the light within your eyes And touched me with the whisper of a kiss Somehow I drifted back one stormy night To find the love I never would forget And still your footsteps are my guiding light In sands beside the lighthouse where we met Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 04-07-2001).] |

Wonderful, absolutely! This could be taken literally and be a monstrous joy to behold. Yet, it spoke to me as one's life, or even the lives to two who've united and begun their future, unseen, unknown, as if adrift in a sea...having only the beacon, the light to seek for guidance...then finding the Light, the Beacon, the Lighthouse just as they had hoped, yet even more powerful to their lives. This is a keeper! May I copy it to my favorites file? |

Elizabeth, my friend~ I caught the glow of your lighthouse ... 'The light, instead of warning to withdraw Beckoned her to come upon the shore' What a refreshingly lovely thought ... ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

I love lighthouses... whether they beckon or warn, their presence implies safety and guidance... the shelter and harbor of your last verse are sheer perfection. *S* |

Elizabeth: A hauntingly beautiful poem. Your work always is outstanding. I could really relate especially to this one as we used to sail in the Puget Sound region and among the San Juan Islands. Betty Lou Hebert |
