Unwinding
Virginia Salter

this day was not like most others
i thank God, especially, for that,
still I must say, in a most emphatic way
it’s a day to wish i’s a cat!

every ounce of my sinew
every vessel, each vein
is a taut rubber band
stretched over a crane

my mind is as boggled as boggled can be
my switch is as toggled and,
well, you can see,
my sense is all nonsense
my words  are all daft
you’d think my brain’d been given the shaft

as i look on the patio
my sweet puddy tat
is a lollin’ and sprawlin’
not a care in the world

each inch of her body
fully unfurled
while sweet nooner sun
has each fern frond a-curled

her paws are way south
while her hind feet are due north
then twisting she goes
while she’s making her sport

of being a cat
a cat that is free
to loll and to sprawl
much finer than me

I've long said that if there is reincarnation...I want to come back as one of my cats.  Loved this!

Thanks JLR, I often think how I'd love to be a cat right up until they lick...but I do love the ease with which they loll.
