Hello Passions, I actually wrote this today...I had to see if I haven't lost my touch(ya know what I mean?)I hope my personal pieces like this one touch you and I don't mind, if y'll critique or give me or give me a few pointers cause, I feel like I should change something....anyways, I hope y'll like the poem!!

A million stars looked down upon me one night
and left me with a smile, that shined like sunlight
as a lucky star granted me, my deepest wish
and kissed my soul, with the sweetest bliss....lucky me....

as I grew up in a controlled, decent household
and as a kid, I stayed on the honor roll
cause you see, mom guided me through life brilliantly and resiliently,
giving me priceless advice, and teaching me responsibility.....lucky me.....

as I've matured and grown to see the image vividly
as I'm a young man full of vintage and positivity,
who respects the king of complex, elders, and real ladies
as I'm the proud father of two, beautiful black babies.....lucky me....

I guess that, out of a million cold blacks,
I'm part of the few that never sold crack,
never been incarcerated, never held a gun in my hands,
never been high or intoxicated, or close to killing another man.....lucky me

My counterparts, treat me like some kind of villan,
they illin cause, I'm not out with them chillin
as they despise me cause, I've been raised to be a decent individual,
and unlike them, I'll never be subliminal or live life as a criminal.....lucky me.....

as I'm a smart, young man that's full of vitality and spirituality
as going against the grain, is the formality of my reality
as people, criticize me and think whatever I do or say is odd
but that's fine cause, I don't follow mankind, I follow the ways of God....lucky me.....

as all the credit goes to God, for bringing me this far
as he listened to my prayers and kissed me with a lucky star
as I'm blessed, floating in a river of happiness, that never ends
and like my lucky star in the sky, I shall sparkle and forever ascend.....lucky me!

Nate~ this is awesome! It's sad though, to think that by being a good person, it's going against the grain.....seems to me, being a bad person should be what is singled out as being well, bad   I liked this very much.    SEA

Nate...this is very very cool and a special poem...
its REAAAAL hard to even try to critique this as its sincerety, sentiment and message far out weight the poetical structure or intend.
Sometimes even in poetry.. its what we say..not how "perfect" we say it.
I love the repetition of the Lucky me and the whole theme of this is waay cool...
Lucky you and lucky whoever knows you...
you are a strong, wise and kind person, and setting a good example for your children in a world where that all too often is lost.
Say it loud and say it proud
Im so glad I got to read this and I think its one of your best...
change the poem if ya need to...
just dont change you..cuz your groovy

tis never easy being a moth,
tis not easy being the flame.
what some never see is--
sometimes ... most times ...
they are one in the same.

"I'm blessed.  Floating in a river of happiness."   This is something that I yearn for.
Beautiful style and words...especially like how you used lucky me at the end of each...this is top gun writing Nate...James

Nate, my friend~
Very nice reflections, I'd say !
Be very proud of your stand with God ...
He kind of has the 'others' beat ... hands down !

Nate, you and I have not always agreed, right?  Well, I think this is the finest piece I have seen in a long time.  As hard as it is to be yourself and stand up to what you were raised to do, continue to be the beautiful Black man that you are.  Wonderful, wonderful,  ME

This is so great...and knowing it's a true 'story' makes it all the better.  Wouldn't change a thing, about the poem or it's poet.
