Upon the banks of Ninnescah, Wildflowers bloom at spring's first thaw, Lone warrior rose to night's begone, In breaking silence of the dawn. From out the brambles and the briar, Sudden and swift came bluecoats fire, Spewing forth the flames of hell, Red the grass as warrior fell. Sounds young brave's cry on south wind's blow, In echoed pain o'er clear stream's flow, Tall grass prairies in trackless wave, Wildflowers grow on warrior's grave. Upon the bosom of the plains, Lays faded bloom of past's remains. |

So much solemn drama in this poem, my friend, especially in these lines ~ Red the grass as warrior fell. and Wildflowers grow on warrior's grave. And your end couplet is perfect. An altogether stirring tribute to such fierce tragedies. Take care, Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Along the Ninnescah River today ... Mike~ This is such a beautiful tribute to the American Native Indians whose legacy is forged along the river banks ... Wonderfully told, my friend. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |
