The Cloth That Separates

'Tis wanton foolish thoughts
circling round and round
inside my head,
thoughts of love,
cherished dreams of such desire
but you're with him instead.
I thought if I could touch your hand,
run my fingers through your hair,
then all the sadness of unrequited love,
would fly away, just fly away,
to some other far and distant day.
Reaching out to help you from the car,
I clasped your hand tighter than I should,
praying magic would fire our love
when flesh met flesh,
you felt my heart,
and naught existed but passions war;
but lo! you wore black gloves,
and spectras dark and hideous soul
forbid the spark of flesh to flesh,
leaving wanton foolish thoughts
going round and round
inside my head.
