inspired by the Walla Walla, Washington Balloon Stampede: Virginia Salter “Sioux City Sue” my heart does woo clad in them “Golden Slippers.” Seen travelin’ on “The Wabash Cannonball” whizzin’ past sweetest aromas of them all. Saturday Fair with music and wares sparkin’ up a week-end’s play Crowds a watchin’ while the horses race ‘neath the sky of a thund’rous gray. Bidin’ time in the afternoon waitin’ for the big balloon To glow its glimmer under crescent-mooned sky while she snuggles with this gladsome guy. “Sioux City Sue,” she stole my heart away, She carried it aloft in her sweet, sweet sway. So “Bury Me Not, on the Lone Prairie,” before my Sue grants to marry me! ©May 17, 2001 |
