Lady Liberty

Many years ago
I was introduced
To the beautiful
Face of you.
Spent five long years
Fighting for,
Dying for
None but your…love(?)

Thought I had you
For so long,
But I found
I was wrong.
You were cheating
Since we met,
Now I know I
Ain’t had you yet.

Lady Liberty are you still around?
Or has democracy the Reaper found?
Were you ever really there
Or just production of our scare?

Rightist extreme
With Right-wing dreams
Of environmental destruction
And poverty induction.
We allowed it all it seems.

"...apathy isn't it...we can do something. Ok, so flower power didn't work, so what?  We start again."

Your very last line sums it all up.  Who would beat the drum to have all line up and proclaim their true self's allegiance to this country, and right the wrongs done by the bureaucrats ...

I think of the many of us that volunteer our time for various associations, school boards, senior citizens and the like...we give and give of ourselves, and the politicos take and take....

oops...you've gotten me on my soapbox.  I'll get off now....but I will surely bet, someone else WILL step up....

NEXT?
