Lunchtime in the City

Tunnel rats rushing everywhere
Business suits subdued to bold
Above our heads, the thunder roars
As temperatures turn cold.
Lines form at every restaurant
It will be quite a wait
Brows furrow as most scurry by
Just can't afford to be late!
Spring has fled and now winter's back
And having its dreary way
Why does it seem that no one thought
To bring food from home today?
My toes are crushed beneath some klutz
What a miserable bunch
I should give up and go to work
But I really want some lunch!

Afternoon at the Farm

Temperature's dropping, no one can be stopping to rest, not anytime soon
The stiff, bitter breeze means it surely will freeze - How cold it's become just since noon!
Cans cover tomatoes, must mulch the potatoes, the okra does not stand a chance
And the farmer will mourn plantings of peas and corn that he's lost to cruel circumstance.
His trusted almanac seems to sorely lack accuracy - for this should be spring!
He will save what he can and then just replant, and he'll hope for what next week will bring.

Night and Morning at Home

I'm shivering, shaking
The storm keeps on waking
Me and so I peek out the pane.
My mind's in a muddle
Just watching the puddle
Grow as it continues to rain.
Work duties are pressing,
I hurry my dressing
And rush out to get in my car.
But I get a raw deal
There sits Lake Oldsmobile
Needing dried before it goes far.
So back upstairs for towels
With my temper quite foul
I attempt to mop up the lake.
Back up to change my clothes
And so this morning goes
I mourn for the bus I won't make.

Always and Everywhere

Every hour, the thought of you
Comforts my soul and sees me through.
Though we may be so far apart
You're here, held safe inside my heart.

Good writing, entertaining. You seem to have a natural flair for poetic rhythm, Suthern. Thank you.

Applause!!!  Each and every one a treasure Suthern! Wonderful rhyme schemes you've penned, and a great flow in the reading. These were a joy to read aloud, and very entertaining. You've given a combination of smiles, grins (I love your "mourning the bus " line), and topped it off with a tender heart squeeze with this last beauty. Loved each one ... you've started my day with a smile!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Sven: Thank you... for the read, for the compliment... and especially for the smiles that image brought. *S*

Marge: Thank you so much, dear lady... your favorite is mine also. And your unwavering support is so much appreciated... bless you. *S*

Kit: Thank you very much... To give you a smile is inadequate payment for all you've given me in your poems and the kindness you've shown me... but it sure does warm my heart for you to shine that smile my way. *S*

vandana: Thank you!

jellybeans: Watch out, gal... get anywhere near my eyes these days and you may drown. *G* Thank you, dear friend... very much.

James: Thank you... I'm very glad you enjoyed.

Greeneyes: Thank YOU!!!! What a wonderful compliment... I'm humbled and grateful. *S*
