I feel as though I'm being punished
for what, I do not know,
but this feeling has been with me
since you said that "I must go."
It hurts here in my heart
not knowing your reasons why,
but a smile I wear on my face
although inside my heart does cry.

I know your hurting inside
and it's best that you went away,
but every breath I draw inside of me
whispers, please come back to stay.
I know that I'm being selfish;
that this is something you must do,
but how do I teach my heart
not to still be in love with you?

Years spent teaching the heart to trust and love, then someone tells you it's now time to turn it off. I'm sorry!!!!

Oh, you know this is the hardest thing to do, to teach your heart to stop loving someone. If you get the answer, please let me know. Its been 7 months for me, and my heart feels exactly the same. Very sweet and well done write.
