You don’t have to be a witch To bewitch me You don’t have to lock me away To unlock me In this prison by the sea Long, countless hours and days pass With nothing to do but think No means of escape; for I’ve tried And my risen hopes slowly sink I’ve asked the walls in vain What I had possibly done To deserve this tormenting terror As I gaze at the setting sun The light glittering off white capped waves The sky in darkening hues A crazy notion comes to me That I’m here because of you The majesty of nature within reach Such beauty before me And yet I am unable to enjoy it In this prison by the sea And oh how slowly does time pass When you are alone With only your idle thoughts for company Inside these walls of stone Oh how you mesmerized me And tricked me into this I was not aware as you turned my head And trapped me with a kiss All the pleasures of the world Are right here for me As long as I remain a prisoner In this, my prison by the sea |

This sounds quite reminiscent of The Count of Monte Cristo.... and a good read... well done, Sir... |

I like the symbolism you have used... for someone who loved the sea it would be both a comfort and a painful reminder to have it so close and yet unreachable.... I hope she knows how you feel....take care There is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar. |

Actually decaflame...Annabel Lee. I didn't realize it until after I was finished, then almost took the one line repeated out, then thought it would be a fitting tribute to a poet who is my subconscious. Thanks |

A crazy notion comes to me That I’m here because of you The majesty of nature within reach Such beauty before me And yet I am unable to enjoy it In this prison by the sea And oh how slowly does time pass When you are alone With only your idle thoughts for company Inside these walls of stone Oh how you mesmerized me And tricked me into this I was not aware as you turned my head And trapped me with a kiss ============================ this is an intense poetic melding of emotional angst, imagery, and rhyme... written with the depth that allows the reader to feel the emote of longing, and lonely inner desolation/desperation. as you say...the torture of so close and yet so far.. excellent employ of elemental metaphor and repetative theme. very well done poet sir PK. tis never easy being a moth, |
