Going in for treatment Expecting a bit of radiation On the jaw To relieve some numbness Felt for the past couple weeks Haven’t been too perky – But hey – once one has accepted They have Cancer – one knows The long term isn’t so hot ”Well Will – it isn’t in your jaw the MRI says you’ve got this walnut-size tumor behind your left ear” Further discussion reveals – excision is not recommended Oh well- For the past few months I’ve been expressing anger – At the very least disappointment At the Doctor Friends and relatives – cannot understand “Hey, he’s one of the best Oncologists” I reply “I’ve been trying to take A proactive role in fighting this I don’t feel I’m getting the support I should be getting” I feel anger as well – Because I know 180,000 men Are diagnosed each year And all the brilliant work done In the past few years Is in the area of early detection And treatment Not one micron not one angstrom Of progress toward a cure Nor toward prevention I wonder what kind of answers we’d get if we asked – what percentage of money given to the ACS goes to finding cures vice new detections – or treatments… The first duty of love is to listen. |

Mr Yeats, that sir is a bunch of bull. "But hey – once one has accepted They have Cancer – one knows The long term isn’t so hot" The attitude that one has helps determine the long term. "I don’t feel I’m getting the support I should be getting” Find a support team that you can feel secure with. Don't accept what one or even two doctors say. Keep serching for more options. You will be in my prayers. |

Bill--I know it isn't always easy to be a fighter...sometimes you just want to say.."I give up"...don't!! Hugs and prayers sent your way, my friend...and I'm glad you shared your turmoil here with friends who care. |

Oh, let me say that boy, do I understand this. No, I'm not a man, but boy do I understand this one. You're a fighter - fight. It's when you have already lost the fight that the tears come. Kathleen Blake |

vitamin b-17 which you cannot get in the united states, but which can be ordered over the internet, i've heard, has proven substantially successful in the treatment of cancer... it comes from apricot pits... sound crazy? dunno there are also things they don't tell you about.... treatments are available and rare which are not announced in the medical community and i will contact a friend of mine who knows about these treatments and get back to you... my prayers are with you..... your words hit hard.... hang in there.... (((((hugs)))))) from virginia i'll send you some more information via email...... |

Wil, Everyone seems to think this is really happening to you - I hope not - but my first inclination is towards this is just a piece written from this angle. In that case, my one suggestion is to keep the ist person singular throughout for more power amd impact Take out the 3rd person plural in this line But hey – once one has accepted They have Cancer why not try - But hey – once you have accepted you have Cancer etc etc. See if that gives it more power from your pov... I hope that at least gives you some food for thought. I liked the relaxed tone you took with this - as tho muttering to yourself, writing in your own diary or just chatting with a close friend... And I think the end question is one asked by many who have any disease that attracts millions in funding and advertising - diabetes, cancer etc... and yet doesn't seem to be aiding and abetting our particular circumstances. A very valid point. Thanks for the read. Panne |

If this is not autobiographical, you have done a remarkable job of describing the feelings one must have. If it is autobiographical, you have still done a remarkable job, but I wish the best for you. It sounds as if you still have a bit of fight left in you. Do what your heart tells you. To love another person is to see the face of God. |

If this is from personal experience, Bill, please look into clinical trials. Let me know and I'll send you the latest listing for all sorts and all locations. Prayers and warm wishes your way, Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

This is unfortunatley out of my area of expertise; however, have you contacted Cancer Treatments of America. I understand they have perfected a holistic outlook based on a wide variety of factors. You are in my prayers. |

Wilfred: I'm in Houston... If you decide to give M.D. Anderson a try, let me know and I'll help anyway I can. Meanwhile... you've written well with calmness and grace... an incredible feat under the circumstances. *S* You are in my prayers. |

Bill, you will be in my prayers. And tell the doctors what you are telling us about critiques: "If it's constructive - G - I accept any and all" |

A new week - and a new beginning Had my first radiation treatment this AM - (#1 of 15 - they take just a moment -last expected on the 23rd) More significantly - in addition to checking out the great references (thank you so much) I've gone back to some things I learned many years ago: self-administered bio-feedback - -visualizing my cancer being starved into withering away - - those of you not familiar with "Mind Control" - should know - it's been around for over 30 years - and I can't explain how it "got away" from me - I used to heal not only myself - but others with it - Again - let me say - I AM a fighter - and I'm not done yet - |
