Morning Stillness
Virginia Salter

Morning stillness
a profound
contrast to the cells within me

Scurrying nervously
inside my stomach
gnawing at my demeanor

Chewing at my thoughts
of this concern
of that care

Outside
not a leaf trembles
day-clock seems in a trance

Inside
stirring angst
rattles my sage

Wait, in the distance
a jet engine quivers
air waves roll and tuck

Behind me
tick, tick, tocking
pulsates the day away

...I
quietly await
what shall unfold
