Born in the Mist

I was born in the snowy-white mist of the sky
With a crystal clear image engraved in my eye
The view of the dry sandy canyons below
The desert where lupine and blue sages grow

I had in my vision a valley serene
Of hot sandy mounds and oasis of green
The waters from springs rising up from a bed
Of rocky terraine yeilding poppies of red

With broad wings of black and white feathers alift
I eased off the sheer granite walls of the cliff
I could see white tipped peaks as they met with the sky
The places of glory my feathers would fly

My eye led me onward to dusty grey plains
Where voices of spirits still whisper my name
I could see in the distance blue sea and white shore
The place of enchantment where swift wings would soar

I flew off a cliff with a dream in my eye
Encircling visions from blue of the sky
I float over desert where voices still call
Of tribes that once lived in the deep canyon wall

With wind under feather and eye to the ground
I float in the heights where the breezes abound
At the top of the canyon where spirits exist
Was born Golden Eagle, aloft in the mist

this is imagery and cadence done poetically perfect...
Liz this is wonderful writing and was a melody kissed treat to read aloud...
love the title as well.
superb as always poetess of cadence grace

see the lights faded
that heaven is overrated
Did you fall for a shooting star

Your poetry is exceptionally flowing and moving, like a soft mist, yes, oh, I enjoyed reading this so much this morning, it lifted my spirits. Thank you.

And if an eagle were to speak, these would be his/her words, indeed....

Beautiful, Lady Santos....

I don't think poetic rhythm could possibly get sweeter than this Elizabeth, absolutely devine cadence and rhyme ... a joy to read aloud.

Best wishes,

This should be on a plaque at every zoo and nature center that have eagle exhibits... very nice Liz..

Dear Elizabeth:  This is transporting!  I felt like an eagle on the wind, myself.  you have such a gift!  I hope you are publishing
in some of the small press magazines, or better yet that you are compiling a book.  If you do, I would love to buy a copy.
