Some rooftop looming site quelled street-racket in flight climbing up long sweet summer evenings on the water-tank. Leaning back your head to the night vault swarming with stars and every constellation breaking away into fiery threads - you knew your way among them. You knew you were part of them until you sat straight up and saw the lost city of dreadful light where once you dreamed. Streaming a living city overhead webbed and knotted bristling with we and all the others known and unknown. Living life between the stars, the windows on brownstone steps that went striding the avenues in our fiery hair. Feeling in them maps unscrolling into long breakneck express plunges as darkly we felt our own blood and longed to know the endings of stories. "I am not now that which I have been." |
