He was a boy of sixteen
when he left his country
he had to
'cause his gouvernment
didn't like him

He grew up very quickly
try to keep himself alive
he had to
'cause there was nobody
who toke care

He came to our country
stayed in a refugee's home
he had to
'cause there was no place
else he could be

He was a boy of twentyone
when I met him and invited him
I had to
'cause he was a nice guy
and so alone

He told me his story
but he kept things to himself
he had to
'cause he had learned not
to trust too soon

When I looked at him
I felt a deep sadness
I had to
'cause they took his future
away from him

My own girl of twentyone
how happy she lives her life
she could
'cause she was born
in a free country

The only thing I can do
is listen to his painfull stories
we all should
'cause maybe then we will learn
to stop the fighting

Thank heaven there are men who fight for our freedoms....

Ah...the things we see and do sometimes are hidden in our dreams. All we can do for someone who carries their past secretly is to care for them and wait. Nicely done.

To Kathleen,

Peace is an endless dream, I know, but I still believe that each kid in the world should have the right to grow up in peace.

I totally agree with the part about listening and trying to understand each other...people are definately a product of their envirionment...unfortunately many do not want to listen or understand...James
