The Old Rocking Chair

How many times
Have you calmed
A baby's cry

How many times
Have you rocked
Back and forth
To the beat
Of an anxious persons
Distressful sighs

How many times
Has your seat been washed
By salty tears

Rocking chair
How many lives
Have you touched
All through your years?

Songbird, I loved this poem.  I used to have a rocker like that, but it went by the way side.  I wonder if it still remembers all the tears shed while I sat and rocked.  I wonder....   ME

Rocking chairs are great and will never go away, along with all the stories that go with them.

like the imagery this one brings to me..    it reminds me of an old gooseneck rocker my mom has that used to be her fathers..he rocked all his babies in it with his one leg hanging over the arm of the rocker..they eventually had to have the arm fastened back on tightly!  i sometimes rock in that rocker and think about him rocking his babies..

thanks for the images..    great write..
