The Sad Truth May 8, 2001 Copyright 2001 Doug Pretorius He stares at the candle's evening flame he twists the dreams that feel the same Opens his heart to all the pain questions the wisdom of seeking fame Out in the night when he's all alone he talks outloud to his dead cellphone "You're the only friend I'll ever own." he whispers with a gentle moan Time can change your most desperate needs it fills his pocket with worthless seeds To spread around for something to eat he looks in the mirror but never sees Winding down toward the end he turns the last corner to go around bend "Where are all my loves and all my friends?" time can be cruel and rarely mends So blanket your worries before you die cover your sins with boldfaced lies Ask about your wonder, even ask why because when you're gone no one will say goodbye |

Doug, around every corner is just another corner? I know, I know, you get to the point that you are afraid to open yourself to anyone because you are still raw from the last time. But you have to do it to survive. You said so much and will touch so many. Very good writing, ME |

Mother Earth: Going around the bend is a saying for going insane. So here he is or is concerned about turning that last corner before completely losing it at long last. [This message has been edited by Doug Pretorius (edited 05-08-2001).] |
