She was eight, and I was nine,
When first I asked, will you be mine,
She said no and hit my nose,
'Cause when you're nine, that's how love goes.

I asked again, at sweet sixteen,
Again came no, she was prom's queen,
For with a nerd, one can't be seen,
At age sixteen, love can be mean.

At high school's end, she moved away,
I saw her last, graduation day,
She signed my yearbook, "Be Good, Stay Cool,"
At eighteen years, love can be cruel.

I read she died, at forty-nine,
The girl I asked, will you be mine,
They brought her home, on Saturday,
To lay to rest, as mourners pray.

I didn't marry, took not a wife,
Don't ask me why, that's just my life,
Upon her grave, I placed a rose,
At forty-nine, that's how love goes.

Interesting style...so many missed opportunities in life...and yet you have not missed your opportunity to place a rose upon her grave and express your feelings for someone you loved...James

Thank you, I love the way it is written.
I don't think as it as sad, it's just the way how life goes.

Mike, boy, have you had a life!  From then to now you never loved another.  I wonder how many others have gone through this.  Maybe you started something.  This was a great write .  ME

A real heart tugger, for sure. Glad it's not your reality. Nice to see you again, Mike!

Mike,

Both cute and sad.  A good job of story telling her.  Enjoyed it much.

I like the forthright way you told this little tale.  That's the way life goes.  Joyce
