Virginia Salter May morning chill of fresh air drifts through the doorway a little nippy to endure for long but lovely for just a bit ya know long enough to wake up the senses rekindle memories of brisk walks together in the mountains or at the shore, you know, before, when it still seemed possible to dream those things I don’t think it ever really happened you were always such a late riser the crisp freshness of morning was always gone by the time you arose was that it? was that what happened? by the time you arose to life its crisp freshness was gone and all you found were overheated passion overdone blessings tired old moonslips lying in the sunlight of a hot May day I’m sorry it went that way- that by the time you came to play whimsy was in decay and summer was in the way with its torrid nights that even sent Stella away on that streetcar seeking desire in all the wrong places ©May 5, 2001 [This message has been edited by VAS (edited 05-06-2001).] |

Thank you all, and Bob, twice for the bump and understanding this poem, I think. Interloper, I'll have to ponder the glass menagerie statement to understand its relevance. I'm sure it must have some, but my mind doesn't seem to be working well enough right now. Kathleen, glad you enjoyed the stroll. |
