Of Beltane

Yestereve it all began,
As the sun at last was set,
Sky-clad witches enchanted the hills
Where the fires were lit.

with clap of hands
and joy of sing
they danced the snake dance
of the ring
rejoicing in eternity
renewal that the Mother brings

Light's triumph over the year's dark half,
As the sun leapt thrice upon the clouds,
Summer's rebirth, dark's aftermath
A spiritual consciousness, disenshrouds

A Fiery god in horned task
reflecting goddess now unmasked
at last   a marriage sanctified
the birthing of the sweet christ child
the sacred--sweet love's sanctity
the best of you, the best of me

Bathing in the wild water,
Removing the restrictive rings,
Lay among the sweet-dewed grasses
Awaiting what summer brings.

Another season to behold
this age of new, is ages old
