A Few Southern Characters I grew up in the South what some people only read about I remember the anecdotes, the drama, the reality Julia took her lunch to one of the rooms she would later clean until my mother insisted she sit down with us only to have her shake so badly at our table that guilt replaced my mother’s graciousness at her kind ignorance Big Daddy was tall, a gentle man and so handsome even when he put on a suit jacket over his pajamas and went visiting around the neighborhood gossiping with the housewives while his was at work Maria’s fingers were blackened by tar of the cigarettes she chain-smoked we kids thought she was a prostitute the day she moved in but turned out she was only what our parents called ‘new money’ she told the best stories I would ever hear I was a child who didn’t understand much as it was going on still I took it all in maybe knowing someday I would need it to understand that who I’d become was a gift from the people in the South, in a time I’ve never had to read about |

What a wonderful picture of your lovely memories and upbringing. It has a gentle feel to it with sense of tribute. |

Hey where have you been , ny the way, need I post a poem "oh where has little sister gone... Yuck that melody is not doing good things to me. He runs screaming into the mirror illuminated by the night... "The most redeeming facet of life is that we have the comfort of knowing it will end. Death doth love equally." |

excellent RJ. . . really loved the way that you described them for us. . . ------------------------------------------------------ To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |
