To Dance! To Life! a movie, some time old won’t tell you who won’t say what suffice to say art imitates life but, a scene recalled so, recall with me physician, heal thyself… can’t be done until one is a patient patiently waiting is an oxymoron when cancer invades to raid and in a stalking parade weakens all but Willpower we’ve seen, we’ve loved, we know someone who continues the fight against all odds odd that in pain, no gain a refrain is plain the music comes again if only to the mind… the music comes again… in this movie, a scene set against southwestern skies ridges of red purpling sunlight countless stars to fill the night the scene, of two coming to grips allaying quips allowing each a last dream one to cling to one with which to die, serene their bodies meet in the quiet of the desert arid, in upright stance arms outspread breast to chest hip to hip they begin their dance slow, they move, in circular form life is a circle, come to norm norm is not within the cancer’s eye and in that, for a moment is why they belied all that they felt left their fear behind in twirling laughter arms outstretched beneath the twilight robes flail out, heads thrown back their dance of sanity less madness attack what to lose, they become as one and dance to meet the midnight sun evading for a moment the cancerous wrench to dance! to life! to feel all gifts to live, to lift! to go, to be, one, with the choir! to pull one’s sanity from an abyss’ mire to life! to dance! our ancestral songs! to accept our time, join spiritual throngs to dance! to life! chest to breast hip, to hip now, take my hand and help me slip quietly, tenderly, to lose the pain for life! to dance! is what we gain. dedicated to the memory of my mother Jacqueline Sue Givens Rilling 1931-1992 Movie: The Doctor 14000 kisses Mom...for giving me life |

You have such a great perspective. This is so tender and full of compassion. To lose all troubles within the beauty of the music and dance is to be grateful for knowing the difference. Wonderful write Karilea! The role of poetry is to utter the un-utterable; to open up |

the mind has incredible capacity to overcome diseases like cancer - I am a firm believer - it is the area that science still needs to do more research on - I loved this |

First, I thank you all. To write of deep emotions, combined with loss of family, is perhaps really "laying it out there." As many of you might imagine, I cannot read this with a dry eye. I tried to read it out loud, to see if the "sound" of it was there for you, well...believe me, if you have stock in Kleenex...you'll retire well. Second, your comments are a source of comfort. None of you just "read"...no...you sit back and take in the words. That is MOST evident in your reponses. A final word: JM, I think you have touched on the mystical quality of all of our Muses.... to be touched by our past, to take from it, with echoes of what once was...to turn it into a format that can be shared, and to perhaps lift ONE other person up... I think that is what a muse does best. We are but a conduit, linking generation to generation, life to life... thank you ALL for making this chain stronger, and longer, as we continue to reach out and touch ONE. Karilea |

Kari dear heart, this has me howling it is so utterly beautiful. You know that when I get in here as get here I must, for my sanity, for my souls sake, I seek out those that I can guarantee will touch me profoundly. YOU sweet sister always do, yes I know you know and I say it often but you know how I feel about wasted opportunities. This is utterly fabulous, always your muse is outstanding always your talent shines, I thank your muse, you mother who gave this world a special gift when she gave you to us. Karilea this is a beautiful tribute to your Mother for is there anything closer or more intimate than a dance, as you said, "heart to chest", and as if osmosis, we receive all that those we love have to give in those final moments, as I too did the final dance with my Mother. Thank you for sharing this, and she must have been a very special person, as her music lives on in you, and what a tune! I have a saying, "For always if we hum the tune we will never forget the song". Please visit me at my new homepage: |

Again, sincere thank yous to all who have read, and have taken away a little something that may recall a memory, or evoke a feeling, that only you might know. None of us are here for ourselves alone... and that is how "share" came to be. Thank you. |

Thank you, Interloper. This comes from depths that I rarely explore...perhaps because even though it's been almost nine years, seems yet too fresh... |
