(Back in the Eighties - a prominent Sociologist named Massey - dewvelopied a premise - that much of how we spend/react in later life - is based on our teen age decade:You Are What You Were When - thus this bit of writing (Memorable Teen Moments) Going through my teens Memorable teen moments Golly, there were so many A mere 7 years from twelve to twenty Peeking through a keyhole And having a spontaneous wet dream. My first French Kiss, My first cigarette Getting drunk (and sick) for the first time Dad thought I was old enough And smart enough - To try to operate the car For the first time "Back it up a little bit" and I smashed it into my uncle's ... Believe it or not - I was out of my teens Before I touched a breast. We were years before our time, In other ways A nice respectable city park Police said "No entry after dark" As one of four frustrated young men Counter-culture Next morning a picnic bench Found floating in park lake. When I was 16 They told mom She had a year to live. They were very accurate. When I was 17 She died. Somehow -I found the strength To support my grieving dad Down the aisle of the church. No one - expected her to go first. Smiling scene - pasted in memory Coming home with lipstick on collar Mom laughing under her breath. Smiling scene - pasted in memory Coming home drunk as a skunk Bringing Bob home to sleep in our rec room. While I fumble for key He's leaning against doorbell My mom, grinning -as usual lets us in. Graduation, First summer job Getting stood up for a date Starting college - Not realizing - How truly carefree those days were. [This message has been edited by Wilfred Yeats (edited 04-24-2001).] |

How truly carefree indeed....amazing what we rush ourselves into, just to look behind and see how much we've lost... well done, Mr. Yeats! |

Wil, "The child is father to the man", or perhaps the teenager, tho' for me, the college years were perhaps the momentous ones. I haven't written about that . . . probably should . . . there is so much to write about and so little time . . . Thanks, Wil, I always enjoy your contributions. Oh, yes....we share some similar memories! You really don't appreciate all the little life experiences when you are that young, but isn't it nice that we can look back and smile later on, and even shed a tear over the memories that we didn't think we would ever survive....good thoughts to you, my friend... Live...Love...Be grateful for both!! |

I'm writing (and have written) a number of these 'pieces' - If, God forbid, I'm run over by a beer truch prematurly - I hope my 'kids' (now 30 & 33) will find them - and know something of their father so - that you enjoy them too - almost second place - thank you |
