My fine Cruiser of Dreams is now carrying me
Down the big river and way out to the sea.
Wherever I want to go, my boat knows the way.
I might sail to China or even Bombay.
National Geographics, I've piled to the sky.
I'll climb them and catch that big cloud passing by.
And all of my books are stacked right by my side.
As I open each page I can take a new ride.
Someone has brought back the Arctics for me.
All of their wild beauty, I'm privileged to see.
I might go by train and I might go by car;
I may need an aeroplane to travel so far.
I explore the jungles, the deserts and plains.
I can travel through storms or in heat and in rains.
The way may be dangerous, but I can go there;
While I sit in the comfort of my easy chair.

To me the best journey is the one in the mind. I can go farther and do more with just a little imagination. Besides I get seasick so I'd enjoy it more in my easy chair.

Wonderful twist at the end. I too savor National Geographics and feel that I have been on a journey of importance.

Joyce~
I think this is wonderful !

'National Geographics, I've piled to the sky.
I'll climb them and catch that big cloud passing by.'

I've been around the world
and back to home
Through photographic pages
I, too, have roamed

Thank you for sharing this.
I'm pulling out some of that magic and taking a tour !

Absolutely, Joyce! There are no limits to where our minds can take us..I believe that is why poets and creative people are truly blessed....

This is fantastic!  It should be in every library...and featured during National Library Week.  In fact, I really should deliver it today to the public library here, they are having a big celebration with activities for young readers, especially, all day long!!

My body never traveled far when I was a child... but my mind??? *S* Words took it everywhere... and those travels are still immensely enjoyed. Well done!

Be careful with those National Geographics~you know what happens to Robert James Waller's characters when they come near them!  (ie. Bridges of Madison County!)
