Dear God, I know You mark the sparrows fall.
You and Your angels must have seen it all.
I took it for a dry leaf in the road, a rock.
No time for me to recognize, take stock.
Too late, too late, I see the little bird.
In shock, the telltale fatal thud I heard.

The mirror shows it to me, lying there.
So tiny and the car so big, a tear
Forms in my eye. I offer up this prayer
Of sorrow. If I'd only been aware
In time, I would have stopped until it flew.
Too late, too late. Its precious life is through.

Dear God, as I go bungling through this life,
Forgive me if I cause another's strife.
Your creatures need to share the world with me.
Keep me aware, no matter where I be.
And when at last I stand before Your throne,
I hope to show I loved them as my own.

Oh Joyce---What a sweet, heartfelt poem.  I still remember the first animal I hit when driving, a tiny chipmunk...I reacted much as you have written here.  I felt so guilty because I had taken my parents car without permission and I thought that if I hadn't done that, the chipmunk would still be alive.

I'm sure there will be a special place in heaven for such a caring person as you.

Beautiful heart-tugging poem, Joyce...this is a prayer we should all pray.  Great show of your caring heart!

to be with you...
I've tried to hide my passion,
but it's just no use...
piece by piece I lose it
when you walk in the room...

Thank you everyone for bringing my poem back from the brink.  Yes, I'd love to know it is being shared.  Joyce
