Hands Of The Potter

~*Marge Tindal*~

I am but the potter's clay
thrown upon the wheel to lay
Awaiting gentle touching hands
to mold me into more than sand

Wet caress spun with ease
artfully crafted gentle squeeze
Finishing touch crimp of edge
set to dry upon the ledge

Coated with a splash of glaze
left to dry another day
Placed in kiln for easy baking
I am but a vase in making

Admired for the beauty of his art
I am molded from his heart
Hands so gentle did create
this vase to hold a flower in wait

Until someone takes me home
crowning flowers for my throne
I am but the potter's clay
waiting here in quiet display

A number of years ago, I experience a series of losses and was moved to write a trilogy, part of which was used in eulogy. I too used the image of we as vessels from the potter's wheel. This image for me says it all. How wonderfully you have written for us. How very gentle your words. ~Shalom

Julian~
How pleasing to this poet to know that I touched a memory for you.

I have always felt I was a vessel,
into which the thoughts of others are gathered.
It gives me great satisfaction to share the pouring of those thoughts with others.

Your reply has made my day.
Thank you so much.

I'm so glad I stumbled onto this one....

For eleven years now that verse, Jeremiah 18:4, has resided in a simple black frame, at the corner of my office desk. Some day perhaps I'll tell you why...meanwhile, I'll just say it warms my heart to see those words woven into something beautiful.
