You speak your mind in defense of love
I listen but do not hear
It’s not what you say, my friend.
It’s what you don’t, I fear

Words are cheap, I know this well
I’ve heard them all before
So if you defend this feeling
I will not listen any more

You may have faith in love
I do not share this view
So defend it if you must,
continue to believe it’s true

You will not change my mind
You really should not try
I knew love a long time ago
When my heart knew how to cry

we never lose our hearts. . . we just build walls around them. . .

well written. . . but. . . sad. . .

Sad poem..but sometimes the way I feel myself on the matter..Funny how the feeling comes and goes. I enjoyed this, Lady Devine.

============================

four lines that serve to prove you've learned
these lessons the hard way..
yes words are cheap ... but when spoken thru lying lips...
they come with great cost...
well written declaration of protection Sharon,
me thinks it will take a construction crew, not a defense team to knock down those walls

I love your imperfections ... I love your everything ...
Your broken heart ... your broken wings.

Some walls, unlike those of Jericho, cannot come tumbling down. Facing that is hard.

Thank you all for reading and replying. I do appreciate it.

Hi Sharon,

Yes some walls are impenetrable, hopefully one day someone will find the right tools to conquer a wall that should not stand,

PDV, I think we all have walls that do not crumble easily, especially when we guard them so well.  Ahhh....I have known this feeling.......HUGS to you.

Every wall must have its own weakness, I do believe... The wall between ourselves and love MUST be one of those... gotta be...

Well done, my friend..

Excellent write, PDV... but how do you stop the flow of tears? I lecture myself on the consequences of believing, but can't build a breach-proof wall when I'm trying to dam the flood. *S*

Sharon this is very sad and yet quite powerful. Loved it.

It’s not what you say, my friend.
It’s what you don’t, I fear

I’ve heard them all before

Phew, how true are these four lines!
True enough to harden one's heart.

great write Sharon

I agree Sharon..sometimes you CAN stop feeling..and it can be hard to feel again.

But it isn't impossible I guess..

hugs to you

Stop feeling?  Sure, about some things, some people.  About everything?  No new people, no new love?  Takes a mighty wall to do that.
If you built it . . .
