Listening to every heart

Touching

I have never met you
but I had heard you
and had read you,

so I went searching
again
until you found me

there, in the library that
is not a library like it used to be
you are on computer now
your name pops up
willingly,

so

in reaching out
I touched your spine
though it was not you that
tingled
                   but I,
and all that had
been lost in this mind for so long
                   refound
in book bound treasures

your voice came
flowing back to my
memories

and I fell in love again

with your clipped way
the brevity with use of metaphor
which made your words
seem all that more

free verse was all I ever knew
in the poet
that was you

how like your words
that would lull my mind
it is that then
that called me to find

the solitude of which
you wrote

and erudite
the way you note

all things then that
crossed your mind,
but always,
                       always
a cat’s paw to find
round
about your cleverness
of words

was it your love of cat
that I first heard

or just the voice of you
in silent waft

as your pen flew

I rhyme, you know,
now and then
can’t help myself
it flows from my pen

and though decades have passed
from whence first I met
your words

still that hope remains
from your lips
I would still wish
for once to have heard

Stanyon Street

and tell me,
                not that you will
but are there still cats
on your window sill?

It has been literally years since a cat has graced this house - I know I'm not the object of this poem - and one cat at a time would be all I'd ever want -
These words - make me want to be the object  - but I felt like I was - I loved the 'feel' of this - a truly beautiful poem

Karilea~
I would know this poet/songwriter anywhere~

Doesn't surprise me at all that we would have share the 'magic' of the wonderful world of Rod McKuen.

My favorites (and they are always subject to change) are~
'Come To Me In Silence'
Or perhaps~
In The Rhythm Of Spring'

Big HUGS to you for sharing this.
And is his web site wonderful or what ?
Kind of a 'Soft Place To Land', huh ?

Nicely done, Marge!!

...and VERY nicely done, Sunshine. You wrote this with the perfect touch...

I've always loved his songs, myself..

I've been to town
I've walked the boulevards and down the beach
I've seen some things that only time can teach
For instance....love is more than just a speech
It's got to have a common ground
I know...because I've been to town.

For some reason, nothing between these walls surprises me much any more, and especially that you all would be McKuen fans as well...

shoot.  No wonder I want to hug you all....
