Well Excuse Me For Being Me

Pardon me,
for eating a hamburger
instead of a Calista Flockhart salad
with low-fat dressing on the side,
so sorry to be unwilling to starve my soul
for this refusal to pledge my allegiance to the stairmaster,
how dare my curves sway in the air
as Hollywood screams that Kate Moss-anorexia is in,
yes,  I know,
I'm undeserving of love
because I can smile at my reflection
because I dare not change for you,
how defiant of me to be the exception
to this size 2 obsession,
who do I think I am?...being a rebel with a cause
accepting and respecting myself,
for being at peace that I wear a woman's body
that there is no need for mardi-gras masks
or drawers full of eyeshadow and concealor deceit,
but,
you're right,
I sure do have some nerve
refusing to purchase that blonde box of hairdye,
refusing to milk my breasts of their worth with silicone sin,
how dare I be content...
proud to be a brunette,
oh, how selfish of me,
my sincere apologies for the inconveniece of dissapointment
that I do not fit the mold of a movie star goddess,
I should be so ashamed for resisting this phenomenon
where being human is simply not good enough,
but,
you're right...you always are,
I should be bowed with inferiority
that my heart is not bruised
with your curse

"hi, my name is Melissa
I'm a size 7
and I'm a natural woman"

for this,
I apologize

The other day I read that the average woman [note: over 30] is:

size 14
weight 144
5'6

Got a curve?  Flaunt it!

WooHoo!

I was a size two once...but I think I was also aged two! I was also a blonde then too!
And here's a giggle for ya---I've two sisters, both gorgeous but complete opposites. One cannot go to the bathroom in her own home without applying make-up, and the other, well, suffice to say she was going to the store one day, where upon my cosmetology minded sister shrieked, "Are you going to the store like THAT???" and 'other sister replied, "Hey. I don't have to look at me!"   Thanks for the smile, tonite!

How dare you not be perfect, girl!
How dare you not be thin!
How dare you not look wonderful
In everything you're in?
How dare you not have measurements
That make you be divine?
And, last of all, the big one is...
How dare you not be mine!?!?!

Know what I do?  When I see a woman with hollow cheeks eating a salad, I purposly ordrer something so delicious and go "mmmmm" a lot, so they get the idea life could be wonderful!  I used to be anorexic for the sake of being accepted or something, and now, I eat like a horse and love every single calorie (I am still kinda little though), you tell 'em Melissa, and I wish to be in your picket line for any "label bashing " you do against ads with these waifs in them.  GO GIRL

Hi Melissa,

As an artist, I consider the female form, skinny or overweight, to be as lovely as any sunset, or field of wildflowers.  I think you've got a great attitude.  Good work here.

being a woman who practically lives on salads...... i thought this was really well said....

the american culture with its madison avenue  image of the emaciated teen as the ideal body image can really screw up a person's head

believe me... i know

... but thanks for posting my photo   lol

(nice job)

Applauding!!!!!!!!!!!   So VERY true!  I find myself amazed to realize this is the first poem of this nature that I've read here.  It should be said much more often.  I applaud you, Melissa.
Am saving this one!
