Fall From Greatness January 13, 2001 Copyright 2001 Doug Pretorius Though high and grand and mighty they fell by the folly of their own slights As the mists of time hide their intent we forget all the things they had to defend Their honor, though for certain whole Their virtue, though for certain true Their beauty, though certainly fleeting and their god, though perhaps a fool We bask in all that they made possible our civilization stands thus erect despite our own thoughts and deeds despite however our leaders inept How long we must ask how long this power cleeve to our breasts? how long to reign within direction? how long before the eagle leaves our nest? Though tall and great and right we shall fall yes, we shall fall and too be lost in the cold and unforgiving night |

All threaded together with truths and wisdom Very well done poet sir. ... you better kiss me ... cause you're gonna miss me ... when I'm gone ... |
