To Meet the Challenge Virginia Salter tall and thin and lean and lanky walk around my house feelin’ swanky that is until I spot that surface that hits my heart, makes me grimace for it reflects reality no more virtual comparity it brings me pain, despairity to see my image with clarity ~~~~ then feeling young with energy I move about with vitality until again with more honest eye more candidly do I espy reflection of age I cannot feel for wisdom’s not come in equal peal each gray hair, though few remain face with fear and deep disdain the mirror there whose image claims my youth’s been spent and age remains to fear its truth is quite inane for it only adds to one’s great pain what’s deep inside’s what truly counts the mirror may show what world accounts yet who one is is governed by heart and mind and spirit nigh should the mirror claim thee not the fairest upon others should one not compareth value, pith or excellence comes from within, its recompense © July 31, 2000 |
