Upon gazing skyward, seeking cool comfort— expectations of star-filled night cause a sigh, expelled in gray clouds— I find only . . . disappointment, dread… The sun has risen, risen at night, holding hands with surprised moon— husband and wife of the sky. A marriage of convenience, some might say, if they happened to witness with their eyes, both bodies sharing the sky. Yet how can we know of convenience, when we are but parasites upon the soiled flesh of their children? I’m sure they relish such a rare occasion— the golden hue of the sun only adds beauty to the glowing face of the moon. And isn’t that what marriage should be: adding light to our lover’s face, skin, showing the warmth we feel, share, know? How truly rich they must feel, knowing the variety of talents each planet does possess. The moon, calming dreaming children against her breast, the sun, oh, the knowledge he provides, and how the planets must love them so, knowing they’re always there. …I find myself ashamed, embarrassed, for cursing the sky, for disallowing me to see the stars, when they have this one chance to hold hands, to dream, to dance; one night together in the sky. How truly selfish am I? Dance with me under the moon. Touch my pale skin. Devour me. Love me. |

I shall never again look at a grey sky again the same way...I now feel I too will give them the time they so deserve. Beautiful imagery Embers. |

A beautiful poem, Embers. As in all your poems the imagery reaches out and touches me always. Kate Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood. |
