The battlefield set with stainless steel The prisoner gazed at the scene, surreal he, with his simple military eye, the soldier known as the 'Lower GI’ The prodding came in southern climes Words expelled! (not allowed in rhymes) Such pain he felt, but bore with grace probing ‘trenches’ far from his face When torture done, he rose to go hoping never again, this pain to know He took it all with typical grit but twas a long time before he could sit |
