I sense snapping jaws
of weighted darkness
trying, relentlessly, to
devour the essence
of my fatigued soul.

Its wretched arms,
squeeze, tightly, around
my weakened body,
longing to grasp the
last breath I hold.

I twist and try to run,
but fall deeper into
its greedy pits and sink
into the belly of its
entrapment.

Its hands are cold,
thieving. Desiring to
possess the whole of
who I am. Craving
all I have ever been.

It scratches and claws,
trying to pull me down
to where it can steal
my precious life.

I'm almost smothering.
I can't recall how
to turn the key
which will set my soul free.

I struggle within.
I find that little
part of me which
loosens this vise.

I push against its
will and break through
the darkness before me
and embrace the glorious light
waiting for me on the other side.

Keep faith, hold your dreams in your palm of your hand as you reach for your goals!
