I don't even have a picture
to help me remember your face
and to this new group of acquaintances
"You and I" never took place
And now the only way I speak of you
is with the tracks of my tears
If I count them as they evaporate
will it make up for all the lost years?

I saw someone who looked like you just the other day
and even though it wasn't you, I still found myself trying to say
"I know you're just a memory, but please don't go away"
Because if I can smile
for just a little while
Then maybe I'll be OK
but then you just turned away...

"People say I should learn some self control; but I just want to exorcise my soul"

"I'm still waiting on a revelation here in Never-Never land..."

This one's kinda neat.  The ending was quite powerful.

Nicely written.  I guess some memories I just cant get rid of and the ones I want to keep, float away with the wind.  Hmmm life!  Anyhow..... well done!

Excellent heartfelt write of the ever present angst felt in the loss of a love that is hard to get over. Love your poetry.

fractal,
Thank you, glad you enjoyed! The ending actually "wrote" the rest of the poem.

kisses,
I can't seem to get rid of any of the memories which I know is a bad thing. Thanks for reading.

Mysteria,
Glad you like! I keep telling myself to write happier stuff but this seems to be my current theme! lol

Jeff, this is fantastic...don't know about others, but I have someone in mind when I read this....taking it literally, I too, have no picture, and on rare ocasion, see someone who looks like him.... and my heart stops, just a split second, but, I don't want to stay, I want to run.....

So, I learned a little more about myself today, with this terrific poem and I wish you'd had posted it in Open Forum #23... for, I hardly look here..
Lucky me, today.... smiling, thanks.

With warm regards,
Pat

Pat,
I originally intended to post this in Open but given the sad (and highly personal) nature of the poem, I decided to post it here instead. Lately, Open has been so "up" and "happy" (lol), I thought it might be inappropriate.
And you hit the nail right on the head as I meant this literally. Everything you said about no pictures and meeting someone with a striking resemblance - that is exactly what happened with me.
I'm glad you looked in on the "dark" side and found me. It's great to be read but even better to be understood. Thank you.

hey there jeffrey... i only stopped in for a second...but i'm glad i did..

this is a wonderful write...hey dont worry about being "darkfully written" for a while..there was someone famous (hemmingway?) who said something about, we have to first hurt like hell to be able to write anything worthwhile.. lol, sorry i dont know that one word for word..but i've found it to be true all the same..

i enjoy reading you..dark even...
